Case Study Part 4: Randy Mack, Trainer, Listo Systems
Randy Mack is an experienced trainer for Listo Systems. With several years on the job,
Randy has been an example and mentor for many of the newer trainers. His functional
skills and evaluations have historically been first rate, and he’s been able to develop
rapport with the people whom he trains, regardless of what the training content may be.
Recently, however, Randy has not seemed happy with his job and has mentioned a lack
of career advancement. Some of his training sessions have ended in confrontations with
the trainees, and for the first time, Randy has received below-par evaluations. In light of
these recent changes, his supervisor would like to help before it gets any worse.
What is Randy’s Performance Readiness® for the task of providing training (R1, R2, R3,
or R4)?
Randy has regressed to the R2 level of Performance Readiness®
What leadership style should be used to match Randy’s Performance Readiness® level
(S1, S2, S3, or S4)?
His supervisor should now use an S2 leadership style.
What would this leadership style look like?
